Portraits – what do they say about a person.

We all have our ideas about what a portrait is. Some believe it to be simply a visual recording of a person, while others believe that it is something deeper like the reflection of the soul.

A good portrait can say so many different things about a person. It can blur the barriers between who a person is and who they want to be, between reality and fantasy, and even between truth and lies.

But the reality of a portrait is that it is just a reflection of a moment that happened in less than a second. Our lives last billions of seconds but often people will make judgements about us based on a single image shot at 1/160 of second. This is one of the reasons why images are important to us.

Here are a few of my favourite recent portraits shot by me. I’ll leave you to decide whether they are just visual recordings or whether they say something deeper about the people in them….
